WIC
(Women, Infants, and Children)
The overall purpose of WIC is to improve the nutritional status and health of the participants.
WIC is a federal program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). WIC provides foods (at no cost) to low income pregnant, post-partum, breastfeeding women, infants, and children until the age of five.

What does WIC provide
*Vouchers to buy healthy foods such as milk, juice, cheese, eggs, cereal, and dry beans or peanut butter (carrots and tuna for breastfeeding women)
*Support for breastfeeding
*Infant formula
*Help in finding health care and other community resources
*One-to-one or group nutrition education
Who is Eligible
To qualify, you must meet WIC income guidelines, have a health or dietary risk factor , and be seen at WIC to determine eligibility.
What to bring to an appointment
You must provide proof of identification, residence, and household income. Examples include: drivers license, paycheck stub, Medicaid card, current water, telephone, or electric bill.
What happens at a WIC visit
*Income will be reviewed and determination for eligibility
*Weight and height measurements*
*Blood will be tested for iron deficiency
*Nutritional concerns will be discussed with a Nutritionist
*If eligible, you will be given vouchers to take to a grocery store to obtain your supplemental foods

The WIC offices are open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Thursday (health department location only).
